Conservative journalist Tucker Carlson is conducting a live interview with US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump just days before Election Day.

Trump has joined Carlson in Glendale, Arizona for a charity event aimed to raise money for the victims of hurricanes Milton and Helene.

Americans will go to the polls on November 5, choosing between Trump and his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris. The high-stakes election has been described as one of the most contentious and controversial political cycles in recent memory, with both candidates trading insults and accusing each other of wrecking the country.

The hot-button issues include the economy, immigration, and the response to the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine.

Trump said that he had decided to seek re-election this year after realizing how “grossly incompetent” the administration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris was, including on the issue of illegal migration.

He also slammed Biden for the chaotic withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan in 2021. Trump said he had supported the idea of ending the 20-year-long presence of American forces in the country, but insisted that he would have done it “with honor and strength.”

Carlson began by asking if Trump had thought about ending his political career, given “the litany of attacks” against him, including two assassination attempts this year.

The former president remained defiant. “I have only one thing on my mind: Make America great again. That is all I’m thinking about,” he said, repeating his iconic campaign slogan.

“I always like to look forward, I don’t like to look at the past so much, other than you have to learn from the past,” he said.

Carlson introduced Trump on stage as a candidate who would care for ordinary Americans and fight corruption. Both of these issues were central to Trump’s 2016 campaign, when he successfully ran against Hillary Clinton.
